about
Photosynthesis is a project founded by Roma Gavryliuk and Martin Simpson. It aims to explore the interaction between light and sound in the form of an audio-visual performance. A live performance with self-built photosensitive instruments demonstrating that the perception of signals depends entirely on perspective. The sound morphs through ambient/drone/industrial polyrhythms by the careful positioning of instruments and performers with delicate and sensitive interactions. Perceiver modules (solar panels, photosensitive analog sound circuits) are listened to, mixed, and played by adjusting their relations to environmental light conditions and positioning additional projector modules (controllable LEDs with pulse-width modulation).
Over the last years the duo has played a series of performances at such events and locations as Zentralwäscherei (Zurich, CH), Sub (Graz, AT), Kvantum Festival (Podhradie, SK), Sound Campus/Ars Electronica (Linz, AT), Fuber Festival (Zagreb, HR).
